They will actually load down to ~40 Hz on a large enough horn (original WE cinema designs), so 500 Hz at rated power with at least a 2nd order XO is a 'walk in the park' on a 511 or larger horn as proven by several Altec speaker products, not the least of which was the A7-500.
Note that some folks find them a bit stressed though, but this is due to the 511's CD design, so adding an appropriate contour filter solves it. If you drive it with the type of amp it was voiced for though (high output impedance of sufficient power with adjustable DF (bass/treble controls)), it's not only not required, but more life-like sounding to all the folks I know of/read that's done a comparison once adjusted to individual 'taste'.
